CSU Women's Soccer Hosts Illinois State on Saturday to Close Non-Conference Slate

This Week: After spending the month of September on the road, the Chicago State women's team returns to Kroc Stadium for its final non-conference game of the season this Saturday against Illinois State with the opening kickoff set for 3 p.m.

Scouting the Cougars: CSU opens the month of October sporting a season record of 1-8 after last Friday's 7-0 loss at Loyola. The Cougars are led in scoring by freshman midfielder Mariela Alba (Hanover Park, Ill./Bartlett) with three goals and six points on this year. Sophomore midfielder Alejandra Alonso (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) and freshman forward Madison Berg (Coatesville, ind./Cascade) are tied for the team's assist lead with two helpers apiece. Junior goalkeeper Gabby Klemp (Muskegon, Mich./Reeths-Puffer) has produced team highs of 43 saves and a .672 save percentage this season for the Green and White.

Scouting the Redbirds: Illinois State, who holds a 6-5-1 season record, has been on a roll recently heading into Saturday's contest with a five-game unbeaten streak since Sept. 11. The Redbirds ended September last weekend with home wins last weekend against Indiana State (4-0) and IUPUI (4-1). ISU is led by Lauren Koehl's 16 points and seven goals, while Kiley Czerwinski has produced a team-high three assists. Freshman Haley Smith currently leads the team with a .820 save percentage, a goals against average of 0.80, 41 saves and four shutouts in goal.

ISU History: Saturday's game will be as the first meeting on the soccer field between Chicago State and Illinois State.

Showing Support: The Cougars will wear pink during their home games in October in show of support for breast cancer awareness month.

Up Next: The Green and White open Western Athletic Conference play on Friday, Oct. 7 at New Mexico State beginning at 12 p.m., Mountain Time.
