Women's Soccer Falls to Mercyhurst in 2025 Home Finale

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Chicago State women's soccer team closed the home portion of their 2025 schedule on Thursday night as they battled the Mercyhurst Lakers. It was senior night for the Cougars as they honored four seniors. Saige Thor, Veronika Avila, Jacqueline Kambere, and Teyha Guiden. This class leaves as the most winningest senior class in Chicago State women's soccer history with 13 wins. They close out their careers helping achieve the best season so far in team history. The Cougars came into senior night riding a three game winning streak looking to end the season on a high note. The Cougars were in a middle of the field all night against the Lakers playing evenly until the Lakers broke through and defeated Chicago State 1-0.

Neither team could get an offensive push going in the first half. The first 23 minutes only saw two shots combined as the game was played near the midfield for the nearly the whole half. The Cougars were able to put one shot on goal by Gabby Flores in the first half and the Cougars and Lakers went to halftime still tied 0-0.

It did not take long for the Lakers to score in the second half. Less than five minutes in the Lakers were able to find the back of the net. Chicago State shot the ball 13 times in the second half and had more of offensive push towards the goal. Six of the 13 shots were on target. A late set piece chance with five seconds left gave the Cougars a last second chance but could not breakthrough as Chicago State fell to the Mercyhurst Lakers 1-0.

Ameerah Kolleff and Saige Thor led the Cougars with shots taken, while Gabby Flores had both of her shots on target. Aviana Gutierrez made four saves on the night.
