The information below comprises the official student-athlete handbook of Chicago State University. It provides direction on nearly every facet of the student-athlete experience. It contains policies and procedures that all Chicago State student-athletes are responsible for knowing and following.Â
The intercollegiate athletics program at Chicago State University serves many purposes to a variety of different stakeholders, including student-athletes, staff, the campus, our community, our state, University alumni, fans and ticket holders, donors, business partners, and many others.
Student-athletes must also comply with the rules and regulations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) concerning ethical conduct, amateurism, recruiting, eligibility, financial aid, awards/ benefits, playing/practice seasons, etc. These rules and regulations will be explained to you by the compliance staff at your annual compliance orientation meeting and by other athletic department staff throughout the year. Â
If you have any questions, you may contact the Athletic Department’s Compliance Office or any other staff member who has responsibility for specific rule expertise (i.e. academic eligibility, drug testing, etc.).
Each Head Coach may also have a set of team rules and standards that you will need to understand thoroughly. Â Make certain that you have a set of these specific team rules. However, in the event that you feel that any NCAA rule or regulation has been broken, it is your duty to report this to the Athletic Director, SWA, or Associate AD for Compliance.
STUDENT-ATHLETE STANDARDS
All students, including student-athletes, at Chicago State University are held to a set of standards for conduct. These standards may be found in the student code of conduct, available on the CSU website. Included are specific policies and procedures concerning academic honesty, disciplinary processes both in and out of the classroom, due process information, appeal information, and conduct expectations. Â Since you are responsible for the contents of the code of conduct, it is wise to read this during your first days on campus, and then use it as a University reference. Any questions regarding rules and regulations should be addressed to the Dean of Students Office (DOSA) located in the Student Union Building.
