Chicago State Women's Soccer Sets New Program Record in Single Season Wins

CHICAGO, Ill. - On Sunday afternoon, the Chicago State University women's soccer team broke their program record for wins in a single season. Under first year head coach Kevin Larry and assistant coach Avery Howell, they have led the women's soccer team to a 5-7-5 record with two games to go in the 2025 season. The five wins are the most in a season for Chicago State and have now surpassed their previous record of four wins from the 2023 season. The 2025 Cougar women's soccer team is also already set to finish with their highest winning percentage in program history and will conclude the season with their best finishing record ever in their 12th season as a program.

Last week, the Cougars also saw their first winning streak in program history. On October 19, the team had their biggest win in team history after they defeated last seasons NEC conference tournament champions, Howard University 2-1. On October 23, the Cougars defeated the University of New Haven 3-0 for their first winning streak in program history. The winning streak continued to three games after a 2-1 road victory over Saint Francis University on October 26.

Head coach Kevin Larry reflected on the accomplishment:

"From the outside looking in, five wins may not seem like much but for a program that has historically underachieved, this is a huge accomplishment. These ladies were determined to change the narrative about this program and it has been rewarding as a coach to witness. We set high expectations prior to the season starting. We missed the mark on a few but this is only the beginning. We are not rebuilding. We are reloading and the next season will be that much better."

The Chicago State University women's soccer team will look to extend their historic winning streak this Thursday, October 30 as they host the Mercyhust University Lakers for senior night from Gwendolyn Brooks Prep Academy. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM. The Cougars conclude the regular season on the road battling Stonehill College on November 2 at 12:00 PM (CT).
