Chicago State Meets St. Xavier in a Battle of the Cougars Saturday at Kroc

Sophomore Amber Jones and the CSU Cougars will take on St. Xavier tomorrow afternoon at Kroc Stadium

This Week: Chicago State women's soccer continues its three-game homestand at the Ray and Joan Kroc Stadium on Saturday afternoon with a "Battle of the Cougars" against NAIA member St. Xavier with a start time of 1 p.m.

Scouting the CSU Cougars: The Green and White brings a record of 0-2 on the young season into tomorrow's contest after opening last weekend with losses to in-state foes SIU Edwardsville (6-1) and Western Illinois (3-1). Sophomore forward Brianna Leggett (Allegan, Mich./Allegan), freshman forward Madison Berg (Coatesville, ind./Cascade) and freshman midfielder Mariela Alba (Hanover Park, Ill./Bartlett) each lead CSU in scoring with two points, while junior goalkeeper Gabby Klemp (Muskegon, Mich./Reeths-Puffer) has recorded a 0.50 goals against average and 11 saves.

Scouting the SXU Cougars: St. Xavier kicks off its 2016 campaign on Saturday after finishing with a 5-13 (3-9 CCAC) record last season. SXU has several players returning to the team this season which includes senior utility player Christina Sperando and sophomore goalkeeper Carly Bledsoe. Sperando recorded a team-best four goals a year ago, while Bledsoe tallied 75 saves.

SXU History: Chicago State and St. Xavier will meet on the soccer field for the first time on Saturday.

Up Next: The CSU Cougars close out their homestand at Kroc Stadium on Sept. 2 against Eastern Illinois with the opening kickoff set for 3 p.m.
