Baseball Drops 4-0 Decision at Hawai’I, Snaps Three-Game Win Streak

HONOLULU – Chicago State baseball continued its weekend series against to host Hawai'i Friday night by dropping a 4-0 decision at Les Murakami Stadium. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Green and White.
 
After three scoreless innings, the Rainbow Warriors (6-12) took an early 2-0 lead in the fourth inning thanks to an RBI triple by Alex Fitchett and an RBI single from Kekai Rios.
 
UH added runs in the fifth and seventh innings for the final margin.
 
CSU was led offensively by junior Rick Salazar (Bloomindale, Ill./McHenry), who hit 2-for-4 on the day. Freshman Cody Grosse (Joliet, Ill./West) finished with a 1-for-3 effort with a double. Junior Justin Wyant (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar) recorded five strikeouts in six innings thrown, but took the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits  
 
Hawai'i received a pair of hits from Matt LoCoco and Fitchett. Kyle Von Ruden threw 7.2 scoreless innings and scattered five hits with five strikeouts to earn the win, while Matt Valencia earned the save in the ninth inning.
 
The Cougars and Rainbow Warriors will battle in the third game of the series tonight at 11:35 p.m. (6:35 p.m., Hawaiian Time).
