Baseball Drops Contest to No. 2 Louisville

Rocky Pascente 2-of-4 from the plate

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Chicago State baseball team dropped a 13-3 contest to No. 2 Louisville to close a two-game series on Wednesday. The Cougars were led by Rocky Pascente (Plainfield, Ill. ) who was 2-of-4 from the plate while Blake Kaplan (Las Vegas, Nev./Sierra Vista) pitched 4.0 innings of work with a pair of strikeouts.

Louisville opened the game with six runs in the first two innings and the Cougars struggled to get anything going but were able to get a base runner on in the second inning. Gabriel Coburn (Windermere, Fla./) reached after being hit but a pitch and Andy Gaytan (Oak Forest, Ill./) reached on a fielder's choice but Coburn was out on a pay form the pitcher to the shortstop. Gaytan was left stranded with a Chicago State strikeout.

The Cougars were able to put two runs on the board in the fifth inning. The inning opened with a walk from Gaytan followed by back-to-back  walks from Pascente and Cole Hansel (Edwardsville, Ill./) which brought Gaytan home. Christian Kuzemka (St. Charles, Illinois/) added the third base hit of the inning with a single which advanced the runners, a scarfice fly from Urso sent Pascente home and put two runs on the board for the Cougars

Chicago State looked like they might cut into the lead more in the sixth. With one out, Coburn reached on a fielding error to start things off. Gaytan singled to left field which put a runner in scoring position and a single from Pascente put three on base but the Cardinals turned a double play to end the threat.

Christian Kuzemka (St. Charles, Illinois/) got things going in the seventh inning with a leadoff single. Dalton Daily (Visalia, California/) reached after being hit by a pitch. The runners advanced on a ground out and another groundout scored Kuzemka.
