Cougars Fall to Auburn Tigers in Game Two

Reggie Brock Jr leads the offense with two hits and a run scored

AUBURN, Ala. – The Chicago State baseball team couldn't stop the Auburn Tiger offense on Saturday, falling 16-2, in the second game of the weekend series. Reggie Brock junior lead the Cougar offense going 2-of-4 from the plate with a run while Rodny Valdes (Panama City, Panama/) took the loss after throwing 3.0 innings of work with a strikeout.

Also contributing to the offense was Richard Paulino (San Pedro de Marcoris, Dominican Republic), Rocky Pascente (Plainfield, Ill. ) and Cole Hansel (Edwardsville, Ill./). Andy Gaytan (Oak Forest, Ill./) had a RBI while Hansel added a run and the lone extra base hit of the day with a double.

Auburn opened the scoring in the second inning with two runs courtesy of two-out two-run home run from Rankin Woiey. The inning ended with groundout to the shortstop.

Chicago State looked like they might cut into the lead in the third inning with a leadoff single from Pascente to give the Cougars a base runner but, unfortunately, he was picked off to end the scoring threat.

The Tigers opened the game wide open with seven runs in the third inning.

The Cougars got one run in the top of the fourth. Reggie Brock Jr, opened the inning with a leadoff double and moved to second with a Gaytan groundout and came around the bases on a sacrifice fly from Richard Paulino (San Pedro de Marcoris, Dominican Republic) to get the visiting team on the board.

Chicago State added another run in the sixth inning. With one out, Hansel drilled a double right field followed by a single from Brock Jr., which moved Cole to third and with a fielder's choice by Andy Gaytan (Oak Forest, Ill./), the Cougars brought Hansel around the bases but the Tigers took the series with runs in the sixth and eighth inning.
