AUBURN, Ala. – The Chicago State baseball team couldn't get anyone around the bases and dropped a 6-0 contest to No. 17 Auburn to close the three-game set with the Tigers at Plainsman Stadium. Chicago State had six different players collect hits while
Vinnie Venturi (Pacifica, Calif./) pitched five innings of work allowing four hits and three earned runs.
The Cougars posted their first hit of the afternoon in the third inning with a single from
Gabriel Coburn (Windermere, Fla./), which gave
Chicago State its first baserunner of the afternoon but Coburn was out at second trying to steal ending the inning.
Auburn took a 2-0 lead heading into the fifth with single runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings.
Reggie Brock, Jr. gave the Cougars some offense in the top of the fourth with a leadoff single, followed by a single from
Andy Gaytan (Oak Forest, Ill./) to push Brock into scoring position. After back-to-back strikeouts Gaytan was picked off at first, ending the inning.
Chicago State had another opportunity in the fifth to try and rally. With two outs, Patrick Ardnt hit a single down the right field line but was out at second with a play from the Auburn outfield.
Auburn added a combined five runs in the fifth and sixth innings and the Cougars couldn't get anything going against the Tiger pitchers, dropping the contest to the nationally-ranked Tigers.

The Cougars will head to Louisville to take on the Cardinals in a two-game series. First game is set for March 10 at 3 pm.
