Baseball Falls to No. 2 Louisville

Gabriel Coburn goes 2-of-4 from the plate

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Chicago State baseball team dropped a 13-2 contest to No. 2 Louisville on Tuesday afternoon. The Cougars were led by Gabriel Coburn (Windermere, Fla./) who was 2-of-4 from the plate while Brett Gregory (Lompoc, Calif./Cabrillo) pitched 3.0 innings of work.

Richard Paulino (San Pedro de Marcoris, Dominican Republic) and Reggie Brock, Jr. scored runs for the Cougars but the Cardinals used big innings in the second and fourth to earn a victory in the first game of the series.

Chicago State was able to get some offense going in the fifth inning. With one out, Anthony Urso (Brooksville, Florida/) singled through the right side, followed by a double to left center from Coburn which put a runner in scoring position. Unfortunately, the inning ended with both runners stranded.

After a big fourth inning from the Cardinals, the Cougars seemed poised to cut into the lead in the sixth inning. With a leadoff walk from Kilian Bloat (Liberty, N.Y./), the Cougars had a runner on base. Andy Gaytan (Oak Forest, Ill./) reached on a fielder's choice and a walks from Reggie Brock, Jr., and Urso gave the visitors ducks on a pond but Brock Jr., was out on a play by the second baseman before anyone could make it around the bases.

The Cougars broke through in the eighth inning. Back-to-back singles from Paulino and Brock, Jr., put runners on base. Paulino advanced to third on a balk and came home on a ground out from Urso. Brock came around the bases at the next at bat with a single from Coburn.
