Valpo Takes Non-Conference Game From CSU 8-3

VALPARAISO, Ind. - Chicago State baseball dropped a non-conference contest at Valparaiso on Wednesday (April 30) afternoon 8-3 at Emory G. Bauer Field.

Through the first four innings the Cougars out-hit the Crusaders 8-5. However the Crusaders added five walks and three hit by pitches to take a 7-1 lead after four innings. Three runs in both the third and fourth innings by Valparaiso put the game out of reach for the Cougars.

Chicago State starter junior Aveeno Nasiloski (Hammond, Ind./Gavit) threw just 1.2 innings before being replaced by junior Dane Mehring (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier). Mehring got the last out of the second inning but ran in to trouble in the third. Mehring finished with the loss to drop his record to 0-7 after allowing three runs in 0.1 innings plus. Valparaiso starter Trevor Haas threw 6.0 innings, allowing one run. He is now 2-2 after picking up the win.

Junior Chase Matheson (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) finished with two hits and two runs scored. Freshman Evan Regez (Kankakee, Ill./Herscher) recorded two hits including a two-out 2-RBI single in the eighth inning. Freshman Sanford Hunt (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood) and junior Julian Russell (Chicago, Ill./Gordon Tech) each recorded two hits.

Valparaiso improves to 16-23. Chicago State falls to 14-28.

The Cougars return to play on Friday (May 2) at Western Athletic Conference opponent Sacramento State.
