Sterrett Captures Complete-Game Win as Cougars Open Final Homestand with 3-0 Win Over North Park

Freshman Dylan Sterrett struck out seven batters en route to a complete-game win against North Park

CHICAGO – Freshman Dylan Sterrett (Chalmers, Ind./Frontier) (Chalmers, Ind.) captured a complete-game win and Tuesday afternoon to lead host Chicago State to a 3-0 non-conference win over visiting North Park at Brooks Field. The Green and White improved to 7-31 on the year, while the Vikings dropped to 27-9.

Sterrett used 104 pitches to hold North Park to only four hits and received great defensive help during the game to improve his season record to 2-4. He recorded a season-high seven strikeouts and walked three. 

CSU scored its runs during the second inning off Viking starter Joel Bonnett which began when junior Jeremy Rataczyk (Highland, Ind.) lined an RBI single that scored junior Weston Lewis (Denver, CO/Colby CC) (Denver, Colo.) after he led off the inning with a single.

Two plays later, senior Michael Carpen (Whiting, IN/Clark) (Whiting, Ind.) scored junior Jack Bobillo (Michigan City, IN/Kalamazoo Valley CC) (Michigan City, Ind.) from third with a run-scoring single down the right field line, and Rataczyk later scored on an RBI groundout by junior Jonathan Carpen (Whiting, IN/Clark)'s (Whiting, Ind.) to provide the final margin. 

Michael Carpen (Whiting, IN/Clark) finished the game with a 4-of-5 effort at the plate with a double, while Rataczyk hit 2-of-3 to lead the Chicago State offense.

Andy Athans paced North Park by hitting 2-of-4 at the plate with a double. Bonnett (1-1) allowed three runs on nine hits in six innings of work that included three strikeouts and three walks for the Vikings. 

The Cougars open a four-game Great West Conference series at Brooks Field this Friday against Houston Baptist with a start time of 3 p.m.
