Andrew Wellwerts
NEWARK, N.J. – Chicago State sophomore third baseman Mattingly Romanin (Burlington, ONT/Notre Dame) and sophomore starting pitcher Andrew Wellwerts (Cedar Lake, Ind./Hanover Central) were named to the 2013 All-Great West Conference Tournament Team on Saturday (May 25) following the conclusion of the tournament.

Romanin hit .429 with six RBI and two runs scored in the Cougars' four games. His two walks and one hit by pitch boosted his on-base percentage in the four games to .529. In The Cougars' 4-1 victory over Texas-Pan American on May 23 he knocked in three of the Cougars' four runs.

Wellwerts threw a complete-game gem in the Cougars' 3-2 victory over Utah Valley on May 22. The sophomore allowed just two runs on five hits and three walks with six strikeouts. His effort eliminated Utah Valley and ended their hopes of winning a fourth-straight GWC title.

Romanin and Wellwerts helped Chicago State to the program's best performance in a conference tournament since 1999.

Houston Baptist won the 2013 title thanks to a 13-3 victory over Northern Colorado on Saturday.
