DEKALB, Ill. – The Chicago State University men's cross-country team continued their season by making the trip to Northern Illinois University to compete in the Huskie Classic. The team competed in a distance this week as they competed in a 6K race. The Cougars scored 64 team points to finish third as a team. Other teams competing included DePaul and Western Illinois.
The team was led by five freshmen as the top finishers for Chicago State. First Dennis Kirui and
Collins Kuyo were first to cross the line. The duo finished seventh and eighth respectively overall. Kirui ran a 19:18.76 and Kuyo ran a 19:28.79 in their first collegiate 6K race. Not far behind in 12
th was
Jacob Draaisma who broke under 20 minutes running a 19:57.07.
Dean Solomon finished 23
rd overall and was the fourth fastest Cougar logging a 6K of 22:19.60. Jason Artege was 25
th overall after posting a 23:03.62 to round out the scoring for Chicago State. The sixth fastest runner for the Cougars was
Trevon Prince running a personal best 6K of 25:01.06. Sophomore
Jaden Laster finished 32
nd overall also posting a personal best in the 6K with a 28:41.10.
Looking ahead: The Cougars return to the course next Friday September 12 as they travel to Normal, Illinois to compete at the Redbird Invite hosted by Illinois State University. The competition begins at 10:30 AM.
