NORMAL, Ill. - The Chicago State men's cross country continued their season with an 8K race on Friday morning making the trip southwest to Normal, Illinois for the Redbird Invite hosted by Illinois State University. Their were 75 total runners on the men's side from schools including host school Illinois State, Illinois Wesleyan, Northern Iowa, Southeast Missouri, and Wartburg College. This 8K race is currently the longest race of the year so far for Chicago State.
The Cougars were led by five freshman runners, first by
Collins Kuyo. The freshman from Nakuru, Kenya was the top finisher for the first time this season with a time of 25:30.90. Kuyo finished 22nd overall. This past weeks NEC Prime Performer of the week
Denis Kirui was the second fastest Cougar finishing 43rd overall with a time of 26:17.70.
Jacob Draaisma finished 64th overall with a time of 27:41.50 in his first 8K race.
Dean Solomon and
Jason Arteaga closed out the finishes for Chicago State with Solomon running a 29:02 8K and Arteaga with a 32:14.90 time.
Looking ahead: The Cougars have shown a lot of potential so far this season and will look to keep carrying that momentum the rest of the season. The Chicago State men's cross country will return to the course next Friday September 19 as they travel to Peoria and Bradley University for the Bradley Intercollegiate at 5:15 PM.
