CHICAGO, Ill. — The Chicago State men's golf team wrapped up a memorable week as the program hosted the
inaugural Windy City Classic at
Harborside International Golf Center on October 6–7. The Cougars welcomed a competitive NCAA Division I field to Chicago for the first time, marking a major milestone in the continued growth of the program.
Chicago State was led by
Kaleb Lambert, who delivered a steady three-round performance to finish
sixth overall at +11 (77-74-76).
Jose Monge followed closely, carding rounds of
76-80-73, while
Sahil Nathoo carded a
(82-85-88).
Kevin Hikichi and
Marcus Freeman III rounded out the lineup for the Cougars in their home debut event.
Chicago State's "B" squad also gained valuable experience, led by
Jayden Brar and
Julian Ortiz, who both posted strong closing rounds.
Alabama State's Wesley Bairros Rodrigues claimed medalist honors at
+6, narrowly edging
Eastern Illinois' Ian Hollander and Western Illinois' Mateo Rascon (both +7).
Alabama State also captured the
team title, followed by
Eastern Illinois and
Western Illinois, while the Cougars finished
sixth overall in the team standings.
Director of Golf
Jean Macon was proud of both the competitive showing and the significance of hosting such an event:
"Bringing Division I men's golf to Chicago and hosting the Windy City Classic is a proud moment for our program," the coach said. "Our players competed hard, and this experience will only help us continue to grow. To see multiple Cougars finish inside the top 15 shows the progress we're making."
The inaugural Windy City Classic marked a new chapter for Chicago State golf, showcasing the Cougars' development and commitment to elevating the sport in the city.
Chicago State will now look to close out its fall schedule with confidence and momentum gained from its home tournament debut.
