Loyola holds a 9-1 advantage in the all-time series and won the last three between the two schools dating back to January 2013, a 66-63 Ramblers overtime win. The Cougars last, and only, victory in the series was a 78-76 home win in November, 2000.
Loyola opened the 2020-21 season with a 76-48 win at home against Lewis who made just five of 31 first-half field goal attempts. The Ramblers ran their record to 26-5 in its last 31 games against non-conference opponents.
STORYLINES
• Spark off the bench: Junior transfer Levelle Zeigler (Oakland, Calif. /Ridgeview HS) is CSU's leading overall scorer, coming off the bench after missing the first two games of the season. Zeigler tied for the team high with 11 points at Eastern Illinois then came back with 18 at Northwestern. He is averaging 9.7 points per game.
• Spreading the scoring: In five games this season, the Cougars have featured five different high scorers with only Zeigler repeating: Lou Demuth (Luxembourg City, Luxembourg) vs. Ohio, Xavier Johnson (Dallas, Texas/Hopkins H.S.) vs. Illinois, Jordan Polynice (San Clarita, Calif. /West Ranch/North Dakota Co. School) and Rajeir Jones (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances Academy) tied for game high honors vs. NC A&T, Isaiah Lewis (Romulus, Mich./) and Levelle Zeigler (Oakland, Calif. /Ridgeview HS) with 11 at Eastern Illinois and Zeigler 18 at Northwestern.
• X-man: Xavier Johnson (Dallas, Texas/Hopkins H.S.) has led the team in scoring 13 times over his two seasons in a Cougars uniform and has led the team in scoring one time in 2020-21 (vs. Illinois). He has also led the team in assists 13 times in two years, including two times this season.
• Career starter: Sophomore Rajeir Jones (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances Academy) has started every game in which he's played over his two-year career, starting 27 games as a freshman and all five games this season for a total of 32 starts, which leads all Cougars in career starts. Solomon Hunt (Pomona, Calif./Upland H.S.) is second with 23 but he has yet to play in 2020-21, followed by Andrew Lewis (Milwaukee, Wis./Milwaukee Vincent H.S.) (20), Ke'Sean Davis (Compton, Calif./Taft Charter H.S.) (16), Xavier Johnson (Dallas, Texas/Hopkins H.S.) (10) and Isaiah Lewis (Romulus, Mich./) (10).
