Men's Basketball Adds to Recruiting Class

CHICAGO – Chicago State University head men's basketball coach Lance Irvin announced today the signing of Isaiah Lewis, Leondre Townsend, Xavier Johnson and KeSean Davis for his 2019-20 squad. This group accompanies Soloman Hunt, Jace Colley and Amir Gholizadeh who also signed this spring, as well as Rajeir Jones, Andrew Lewis and Kalil Whitehead, who all signed during the fall.

Isaiah Lewis
6'0 — 145 — Point Guard
Lewis comes to Chicago State from Wayne Memorial High School outside of Detroit, Michigan. In his Senior season at Wayne Memorial he averaged 23 points, 6 assists and 4.5 steals a game. Lewis was also a four year starter at Wayne Memorial, winning two  District and Division Championships, asl well as being selected 1st team all conference selection two times. He hold also hold two school records for Career points (1,402) and Single Game Points (50).

Coach Irvin on Lewis: Isaiah is a great leader on and off the court.  He is a point guard that has the ability to make others around him better.  He has the ability to knock down shots from outside and is effective getting into the paint.  He also does a great job on the defensive end of the floor.  Isaiah comes from a winning program and Coach Young has a history of developing great guards.

Leondre Townsend
6'4 — 175 — Guard
Townsend will make the trip to Chicago State from Corliss High School down the street from Chicago State's campus.  In his senior season he helped lead Corliss to a 4th place finish in the 2A State Tournament.  As a Senior he was a Red South Conference All Conference Selection, also being selected to the CPS and Under Armor South All Star Games. He was also a 2A Fourth Team All State Selection.

Coach Irvin on Townsend: Leondre is a great athlete and shooter from the wing position. He really blossomed in his Senior Season under Coach Harvey at Corliss High School, playing well against some of the best competition in the City. We look forward to continuing to help LeAndre improve his game in front of his friends and family.

 Xavier Johnson
5'11 — 165 — Point Guard
Johnson had a great two year run at Hill Community College in Hillsboro, Texas. As a Freshman Johnson was a First Team All Conference Selection after averaging 14.8 Points and 4 Assists per game while shooting 49% from the field and 45% from the 3 point line. As a Sophomore he upped those averages to 17.1 Points and 3 Assists per game hitting 85 three's.

Coach Irvin on Johnson: Xavier gives us the experienced guard that we have been looking for in this recruiting class. He has the ability to really score and shoot the basketball, while also knowing how to get his teammates involved as well. His Coach Swede Trenkle grew up in a historic Coaching family and I know he has the intangibles that we look for in our Point Guards here at Chicago State.

KeSean Davis
6'7 — 225 — Forward
Davis comes to Chicago State after sitting out the past season due to illness. In 2017-2018 he attended Seward Count Community College. While at Seward he averaged 13.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game, while shooting 49.7 percent (149-of-300) from the field, 41.0 percent (43-of-105) from 3-point range and 66.7 percent (60-of-90) at the free-throw line.

Coach Irvin on Davis: KeSean is a big, strong, versatile athlete that can play multiple positions on the floor. His Coach Jason Sautter at Seward is widely known throughout the coaching ranks as a great motivator and teacher of the game. We are looking forward to helping KeSean continue his academic and athletic career here at Chicago State.
