Baseball Closes WAC Weekend Series at Sacramento State

Junior Tyler Lowe hit 2-for-3 in today's series finale at Sacramento State

SACRAMENTO – Chicago State baseball closed its Western Athletic Conference weekend series here today at John Smith Field with a 10-0 defeat to host Sacramento State.

The Hornets produced two runs in the first and fourth innings for a 4-0 lead then added a run in the fifth to increase their advantage to 5-0. SSU then recorded five runs in the sixth to close the scoring.

CSU was led at the plate by junior Tyler Lowe (Northville, Mich./Northville) as he batted 2-for-3. Senior Cody Freund (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) and junior Tyler Zunkel (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) also recorded a base hit in the game.

Senior Zach Thomas (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) fell to 1-5 on the season after he allowed two runs on four hits over three innings of work while recording three strikeouts.

The Cougars take a break from the road on Tuesday afternoon as they host Milwaukee in a non-conference battle at Cougar Stadium with the first pitch set for 3 p.m.
