Cougars Travel Southwest This Weekend for WAC Series at NM State

CHICAGO – Chicago State baseball hits the road again this weekend for Western Athletic Conference play as it travels to Las Cruces, N.M., for a three-game series at Presley Askew Field against host New Mexico State.
 
The series begins tomorrow night with a live broadcast on ESPN+ with the first pitch set for 7 p.m. followed by a Saturday afternoon battle at 3 p.m. and the series finale will be on Sunday at 1 p.m. as the final two games will be streamed live on the WAC Digital Network.
 
CSU returns to action after taking a break from the road on Tuesday afternoon as it fell to Milwaukee in a non-conference battle by a score of 12-4 at Cougar Stadium as senior Matt Paciello (Wellington, Fla./Park Vista) hit 2-for-3 at the plate. Paciello leads the Green and White with a .295 batting average and six doubles, while junior infielder Tyler Lowe (Northville, Mich./Northville) has tallied team-leading numbers of 17 runs batted in and three home runs on the season.
 
Senior utility player Zach Thomas (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) leads the Cougar pitching staff with a 3.76 earned run average and 33 strikeouts, senior reliever Robert Gutierrez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) has amassed a 2-0 season record, and junior closer Joe Fitka (Anchorage, Alaska/Diamond) is first on the team in saves with three.
 
New Mexico State brings a 20-13 season record into this weekend's series after recording a 9-1 victory on Tuesday at in-state rival New Mexico which followed a three-game series sweep at conference rival CSU Bakersfield last weekend.
 
Freshman infielder Nick Gonzales is hitting .393 on the season to lead NM State on the offensive end, while junior outfielder Tristen Carranza has posted a team-best eight home runs. Redshirt senior catcher Mason Fishback leads the Aggies with 44 hits, 13 doubles and 34 RBI. Junior right handed pitcher Kyle Bradish leads NMSU's pitchers with a 3.02 ERA and 71 strikeouts and senior left-hander Jonathan Groff has tallied a team-leading 6-2 season record.
 
CSU's road swing concludes on Tuesday, April 17 at Missouri with the first pitch set for 4:30 p.m.
