CHICAGO – The Chicago State baseball team heads south to Missouri this weekend for a three-game series against host Saint Louis at the Billiken Sports Center.
 
The teams open the series tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. meeting on Saturday and the finale will be on Sunday at 12 noon. All games can be viewed via live stats which are accessible through the links above this preview.
 
CSU comes into SLU with a record of 4-3 after posting a 2-2 mark last weekend at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla. The Green and White captured wins over St. Bonaventure (9-5) and Mount St. Mary's (7-4) before falling to a pair of Big Ten Conference foes in Minnesota (5-16) and Indiana (2-7).
 
The top hitter for the Cougars is junior first baseman Tyler Lowe (Northville, Mich./Northville), who ranks third in the Western Athletic Conference with a .517 batting average and is tied with senior catcher Cody Freund (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) with nine runs batted in this season. Junior right-handed pitcher Joe Fitka (Anchorage, Alaska/Diamond) is first on the team with a 0.00 earned run average, 10 strikeouts and three saves in 8.2 innings thrown.
 
Saint Louis holds a 1-7 season record and has dropped its last four contests going into this weekend. The Billikens fell to Notre Dame (3-7), Purdue (2-5), and Incarnate Word (2-5 & 2-3) last week at the Alamo Irish Classic in San Antonio, Texas.
 
Sophomore infielder/outfielder Jake Garrella leads the team in hitting with a .344 average and 11 hits, while senior catcher James Morisano has tallied two home runs and six RBIs. Junior righty Miller Hogan has posted 13 strikeouts and a 3.75 ERA over 12 innings in two starts on the mound this season.
 
CSU returns home next week to battle inter-city rival UIC in a four-game series at Curtis Granderson Stadium that begins on March 9 at 4 p.m.
