Chicago State Baseball Signs Two During Early Period for 2019

CHICAGO – Chicago State University head baseball coach Steve Joslyn has announced today the signing of student-athletes Connor Bagnieski and C.J. Lewis to National Letters of Intent as part of its recruiting class for the 2019-20 school year. Bagnieski and Lewis will come to campus in August of 2019.

"(CSU Assistant) Coach David Harden has done a great job of identifying the needs of the program. Coach Harden is a tireless recruiter who relates well to this generation of student-athletes and knows what it takes to play at the professional level," said Joslyn.

Bagnieski, a 5-foot-11 middle infielder hailing from the same hometown as CSU redshirt junior Joe Baier (Suamico, Wis./Bay Port) in Suamico, Wis., will play his first collegiate season as a redshirt freshman at Florida Southwestern State College after redshirting at the State College of Florida in 2018. He is a two-year letterwinner at Bay Port High School in Green Bay, Wis., where he helped them to back-to-back Wisconsin state tournament appearances in 2015 and 2016. Bagnieski played summer ball for Rhino Baseball for five years.

Playing both third base and outfield, standing at 6-foot-2, Lewis has lettered twice at Normal (Ill.) Community West High School while helping Normal West finish 24-15 in addition capturing Big 12 Conference and IHSA Class 3A regional titles last spring. Lewis earned the Big 12 Scholar-Athlete award following the season and is the top-ranked third baseman in the state by Perfect Game. He also played summer ball for the Warbird Senators.

"We are very excited to have Connor and C.J. join the Cougar baseball family," Joslyn added. "These young men fit into our culture of quality people and strong student-athletes that will be leaders on and off the field."

The Green and White will open their 2019 schedule on Feb. 15 at the University of Pacific.
