Baseball Announces Release of 2019 Game Schedule

2019 Chicago State Baseball Schedule

CHICAGO –
The Chicago State University baseball team and seventh-year head coach Steve Joslyn has announced the release of its 2019 game schedule today.

CSU's 56-game slate includes a 27-game Western Athletic Conference schedule and 19 home contests on the friendly confines of Cougar Stadium. The Green and White will also face off against non-conference opponents from the Big Ten, Missouri Valley, Atlantic Coast, Big West, Mid-American, Ohio Valley, Big East and Southland conferences.

"We have put together another first-class schedule to challenge our players this upcoming season," said Joslyn, who welcomes back 14 letterwinners and four position starters from last year's squad. "We are excited to have the largest roster ever here at CSU and feel this is the most competitive team with depth in a long time."

The Cougars open the season in California on Feb. 15-17 with a three-game series at Pacific before heading to New Orleans on Feb. 22-24 to compete in the annual Sugar Bowl Classic in New Orleans against host UNO, Butler and Rutgers.

Next up for CSU is a trip to Port Charlotte, Fla., to play three games at the Snowbird Classic on March 1-3 followed by a four-game inter-city series against rival UIC (March 8-10) that includes a March 9 doubleheader for its home opener.

"We travel from Florida to California (to start off our schedule), including a first-time trip to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl Classic. These games along with playing midweek games at Notre Dame, Iowa and Purdue will help prepare us for our WAC schedule beginning in March," Joslyn added.

The Cougars also take on Western Michigan (March 12), Saint Louis (March 15-17), Iowa (March 20) and Notre Dame (March 26) in non-conference contests on the road while hosting area foes Northern Illinois (March 19) and Northwestern (March 27) in mid-week showdowns. WAC play also begins in March for the Green and White with a road series at Northern Colorado (March 22-24) and at home versus New Mexico State (March 29-31).

Chicago State hits the road to start off April with WAC road series at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (April 5-7) and Utah Valley (April 12-14) to go along with mid-week battles versus Northwestern (April 2), Valparaiso (April 9), Eastern Illinois (April 16) and Purdue (April 23). The Cougars then return to Cougar Stadium for home battles versus Sacramento State (April 18-20), Grand Canyon (April 26-28) and Valpo (April 30) to end the month.

After hosting Bradley on May 1 to close a five-game homestand, CSU finishes off conference play with WAC series on the road at Seattle (May 3-5) and conference newcomer California Baptist (May 10-12) sandwiched between a mid-week home game against EIU (May 7) and a three-game series versus CSU Bakersfield (May 16-18) to end the season

The WAC Tournament, which features the top six teams, will take place on May 22-26 from HoHoKam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz., with the champion receiving the league's automatic bid into the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
