Baseball Falls at Northern Colorado in Opener of Final WAC Series

PUEBLO, Colo. – Chicago State baseball began its final Western Athletic Conference series of the season here today against Northern Colorado as the host Bears posted a 10-0 victory in eight innings at Rawlings Field.
 
UNC opened the game with an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and increased its advantage to 2-0 in the second. The Bears added two runs in the fourth, a run in the fifth and seventh before producing four in the eighth for the final margin.

Junior Brandon Eyring (Mesa, Ariz./Mesa) came off the bench to lead CSU in hitting as he went 2-for-3 at the plate, while redshirt senior Julian Russell (Chicago, Ill./Gordon Tech) hit 2-for-4. Redshirt junior starting pitcher Brad Moore (Mount Prospect, Ill./Hersey) suffered the loss on the mound after allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits over 6.2 innings of work.
 
Northern Colorado had four players that posted multi-hit efforts with Brett Minnick going 3-for-4 and scoring twice, while Troy Watson scattered seven hits through seven innings of work and struck out five batters to capture the win.
 
Both teams will face off in the second game of this week's series tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m.
