Six Chicago State Student-Athletes Named 2016-17 Winter Academic All-WAC

CHICAGO – Six Chicago State University student-athletes were recognized by the Western Athletic Conference today for their achievements in the classroom as the league unveiled its 2016-17 Winter Academic All-WAC honorees.

In order to be receive the honor, a student-athlete must have completed the following tasks –have completed at least one academic year at their institution with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2 and have competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.

The 279 student-athletes which received these accolades are individuals from all conference-sponsored winter sports (men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor track & field, men's and women's swimming & diving).

The six winter honorees join 10 academic all-conference recipients in the fall for the Cougars.

Men's Basketball – Trayvon Palmer (Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer), Gr.

Women's Basketball – Jessica Cerda (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood), Sr., Cailin Nix (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville), Sr., and Tiana Thomas (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah), So.

Men's Indoor Track & Field – Desmond Meyer (Oswego, Ill./Oswego), Jr.

Women's Indoor Track & Field – Daeja Hooks (Chicago, Ill./UIC Prep), Jr.
