Butler Defeats Chicago State Baseball, 6-2

CHICAGO – Chicago State baseball continued its homestand here at Cougar Stadium this afternoon against visiting Butler, but the Bulldogs would defeat the Green and White by a score of 6-2.

BU jumped ahead in the first inning with three runs which included RBI singles from Jordan Lucio and Connor Christman.

The Bulldogs added a run in the fifth to increase their lead to 4-0 and tallied two more runs in the sixth to move ahead 6-0.

CSU scored two runs with two outs in the seventh inning to slice its deficit to pull within four runs that began with junior Brandon Eyring (Mesa, Ariz./Mesa) hitting an infield single and later scoring on a throwing error that brought on freshman Steven Jacobsen before he eventually crossed home plate on a second BU throwing miscue.

Eyring finished the day going 1-for-4 and scored a run for the Green and White on the day. Redshirt junior Brad Moore (Mount Prospect, Ill./Hersey) posted six strikeouts in five innings of work, but allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits to take the loss. Senior Josh Willis (Omaha, Neb./Millard South) contributed three strikeouts over three relief innings and fellow classmate Josh Perkins (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) threw a scoreless ninth inning.

Michael Hartnagel (3-for-5, two runs) and Gehrig Parker (3-for-4, double) each tallied three hits to lead Butler, while Ryan Pepiot recorded five strikeouts and five walks through seven innings thrown to earn the win.

The Cougars close out the weekend against Eastern Michigan Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
