CHICAGO - Chicago State baseball travels to the Sunshine State this weekend to compete in the annual Snowbird Classic, held in Port Charlotte, Fla. The Cougars open their slate on Friday afternoon against Georgetown then face Ball State on Saturday afternoon and Northeastern on Sunday morning.

SCOUTING CSU – The Green and White head to Florida with a 3-4 season record after going 1-2 last weekend at the Perfect Game Invite in Georgia that included a 7-5 victory over Fort Wayne. Junior infielder/outfielder Jacob Vanitvelt (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) leads CSU in batting average (.333), hits (10), runs (five) and doubles (four), while junior outfielder Matt Paciello (Wellington, Fla./Park Vista) has tallied a team-best six RBIs. Junior RHP Jake Perkins (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) has posted a 1-0 record with a 0.69 earned run average and sophomore RHP Joe Baier (Suamico, Wis./Bay Port) leads the Cougars with a 2-0 record on the mound.

SCOUTING GU – Georgetown enters the weekend with a 4-5 season record and has captured wins in its last two games, including a 6-5 win at George Washington on Wednesday. Graduate student outfielder Zach Racusin has recorded team highs of a .447 batting average with four doubles and two triples, and junior outfielder Michael DeRenzi leads the Hoyas with 12 RBIs and 12 runs scores. Senior right-handed pitcher Nick Leonard has produced a 1-0 record, a 3.95 earned run average and 12 strikeouts on the year.

SCOUTING BSU – Ball State has posted a 4-3 record going into this weekend's slate after going 2-2 at last weekend's Caravelle Resort Tournament with a pair of wins over George Mason (14-6 and 7-0) in addition to losses to defending national champion Coastal Carolina (0-1) and West Virginia (1-4). Leading the Cardinals on the offensive end is junior infielder Justin Kirkpatrick, who is batting .500 this season with five runs batted in. Junior righty Colin Brickhouse has recorded team highs of a 1.46 ERA and 17 strikeouts over 12.1 innings of work on the mound.

SCOUTING NU – After splitting a four-game series last weekend at North Florida, Northeastern continues its stay in the Sunshine State with a 2-5 record entering this weekend's slew of contests in Port Charlotte. Redshirt sophomore catcher Michael Geaslen and senior outfielder Jimmy Hand are tied for the team lead with each player posting a .500 batting average, while senior infielder/catcher Nick Fannerson has recorded six RBIs and two home runs. On the mound, redshirt senior right-hander Mike Fitzgerald posted a 1-0 record and a 3.27 ERA for the Huskies.

UP NEXT – CSU returns home next week for a four-game home-and-home series against rival UIC that begins on March 10 at Granderson Stadium with a start time of 4 p.m.
