COLUMBIA, Mo. – After seeing yesterday's game cancelled due to cold weather, Chicago State baseball saw itself in a battle against No. 23 Missouri here today before falling in a close 7-6 decision in the 13th inning at Taylor Stadium.

The Tigers broke a scoreless tie in the second inning with a pair of runs for an early 2-0 lead which included an RBI single from Matt Berler and later used a Trey Harris run-scoring single in the third inning to hike their advantage to 3-0.

CSU got on the board in the fourth inning as junior Jacob Northrup (Phoenix, Ariz./Sahuaro) ripped an RBI double to left field which brought home fellow classmate Matt Paciello (Wellington, Fla./Park Vista) to slice its deficit to 3-1.

The Green and White also scored in the top of the seventh to pull within 3-2 on an RBI single from senior Rick Salazar (Bloomingdale, Ill./Plainfield South) to score sophomore Joe Baier (Suamico, Wis./Bay Port), but Mizzou increased its lead to 4-2 when Brett Bond crossed home plate on an RBI infield groundout.

Redshirt senior Julian Russell (Chicago, Ill./Gordon Tech) scored two runs for CSU with a double to center field that plated Paciello and junior Jacob Vanitvelt (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) to even the score at 4-4 and send the game into extra innings.

In the top of the 11th inning, Salazar blasted his first home run of the season with a two-run shot to left center which also scored sophomore Malik Carpenter (Chicago, Ill./Mt. Carmel) to hand the Cougars their first lead of the contest at 6-4 before the home team had a two-run double from Connor Brumfield to tie the score at 6-6.

The Tigers closed out the game in the 13th Inning with a run off an infield error for the final margin.

Salazar finished the game hitting 2-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs to lead CSU. Baier (2-2) took the loss on the mound after allowing three runs on four hits in three innings of relief, while senior reliever Noe Arteaga (Chicago, Ill./Gordon Tech) tallied a career-high four strikeouts in two relief innings

Mizzou was led offensively by Berter as he batted 3-for-7 with two RBIs and scored twice, and Brian Sharp (2-0) threw a scoreless relief inning and struck out two batters to earn the win.
