Women’s Soccer Drops 6-1 Decision to Seattle in WAC Opener

CHICAGO – Chicago State women soccer kicked off its Western Athletic Conference slate here today as it dropped a 6-1 decision to defending WAC champion Seattle at Ray and Joan Kroc Stadium.
 
Both teams opened the first half with a scoreless battle that lasted 29 minutes before the visitors tallied goals in the 30th and 39th minutes to gain a quick 2-0 lead.
 
Freshman Jensyn Stanberry (Grand Haven, Mich./Fruitport) put the Cougars on the board in the 42nd minute with her third goal of the season as she stole a pass from 20 yards out the goal box and put a shot past the SU goalie to pull the home team within 2-1 going into halftime.
 
The Redhawks added goals in the 49th, 50th, 69th and 71st minutes of the second half for the final margin.
 
Senior Gabby Klemp (Muskegon, Mich./Reeths-Puffer) had a good performance in goal for the Green and White as she recorded 10 saves with seven stops coming in the second half.
 
CSU concludes its conference-opening weekend on Sunday afternoon against Utah Valley with the start time set for 1 p.m.
