ERIE, Pa. — Chicago State women's soccer fell to Mercyhurst, 3-1, on Thursday despite putting five of its six shots on goal.
The Cougars weathered an early push from Mercyhurst, which recorded three shots and two corner kicks during the opening stretch. Mercyhurst eventually built a two-goal advantage before Chicago State responded in the second half.
Ameerah Kolleff converted her penalty-kick attempt to put the Cougars on the board and bring CSU within one. Kolleff led Chicago State offensively with four shots, including three on goal. Morgan Perry and Alana Garcia also recorded shots on target for the Cougars.
Mercyhurst finished the match with a 13-6 advantage in shots and put eight attempts on goal. Kamila Aguilar played all 90 minutes in goal for Chicago State and recorded five saves.
Chicago State will return home Sunday, Sept. 20, when the Cougars host Delaware State University at 1 p.m. at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep in Chicago.
