CSU Athletics Honors Student-Athletes at 2016 Athletic Awards Banquet

CHICAGO – Chicago State University's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics honored its student-athletes from 15 athletic teams for their athletic and academic accomplishments from the 2015-16 school year during its annual athletic awards banquet at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center on Monday night.

The banquet brought the CSU community together to honor these young men and women while taking a look back at their successes over the athletic season which will officially conclude on May 22nd. CSU's Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Denisha Hendricks served as MC for the banquet, while CSU President Dr. Thomas Calhoun, Jr. was also in attendance.

In addition to each team presenting awards, the department handed out several awards to student-athletes for their accomplishments.

Men's and women's tennis head coach Jack Barton was named CSU Coach of the Year, while senior Sergiu Muresan (Roman, Romania) from the men's tennis team captured CSU Male Student-Athlete of the Year honors and senior women's basketball player Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) was named CSU Female Student-Athlete of the Year.
