Baseball Drops 7-0 Decision in Series Finale at Saint Louis

ST. LOUIS – Chicago State baseball team closed out its weekend series here with a 7-0 defeat to host Saint Louis this afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center.
 
The game started off a strong scoreless tie through the first four innings with CSU's Dillon Engle and SLU's Miller Hogan battling each other in a tough pitchers' duel.
 
In the fifth inning, the Billikens got a couple of runs to take a 2-0 lead and later hiked their lead to 3-0 in the seventh inning with an additional run.
 
SLU (3-7) closed out the game with four runs in the eighth inning for the final margin.
 
Freshman Joe Baier (Suamico, Wis./Bay Port) hit 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Chicago State (2-9), while Engle posted six strikeouts despite taking the loss after allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits in seven innings thrown.
 
The Cougars return to Chicago to begin a four-game series against rival UIC beginning this Friday afternoon at Curtis Granderson Stadium with the first pitch set for 3:05 p.m.
