Baseball Falls to Boston College and Indiana State at Snowbird Classic

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Chicago State baseball team continued its weekend stretch at the Snowbird Classic here today by falling to Boston College (7-1) and Indiana State (14-5).
 
The Eagles broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with a five-run rally that was highlighted by a RBI single from Gian Martellini for a 5-0 lead.
 
CSU got on the board in the fifth inning when freshman Joe Baier (Suamico, Wis./Bay Port) led off with a double down the left field line and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from sophomore Zach Thomas (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West ) before scoring on an error to pull within 5-1.
 
BC added an additional run in the sixth and seventh innings to provide the final margin.
 
The Green and White were led by Thomas, who posted a 1-of-2 effort at the plate and finished with five putouts in his first start at right field. Senior Dillon Engle took the loss on the mound for CSU after allowing six runs (one earned) on four hits in six innings of work.
 
Stats were not available for the Indiana State game.
 
The Cougars close out the Snowbird Classic on Sunday morning against Iowa with the first pitch set for 10:30 a.m., Eastern Time.
