Cougars Close WAC Opening Weekend with 5-1 Home Loss to UTRGV

Sophomore Amber Jones recorded her second goal of the season for CSU today against UTRGV

Chicago State women's soccer closed out its opening weekend of Western Athletic Conference play here today in a 5-1 defeat to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley at Kroc Stadium.

The Vaqueros posted a 4-0 lead in the first half after scoring goals in the sixth, 11th, 12th and 19th minutes. The visitors scored another goal in the 59 th minute of the second half to increase its leading margin to 5-0.

CSU kept battling in the second half and got on the board in the final seconds as sophomore Amber Jones (St. Louis, Mo./Mary Institute Country Day) headed in a cross from freshman Taylor Rankin (Dearborn, Mich./Ford) on the right side for her second tally of the season to close the scoring.

Rankin finished the game with three shots on goal and sophomore Audra Wisehart (Sandusky, Ohio/Huron) posted consecutive double-digit save efforts this weekend as she stopped 10 UTRGV shots attempts on goal.

CSU continues its final three-game homestand at Kroc on Friday, Oct. 14 against CSU Bakersfield in a WAC matchup beginning at 3 p.m.
