Smith Leads CSU Men’s Cross Country at Greater Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE – The Chicago State men's cross country team kicked off its final month on non-championship competition here on Saturday by competing in the annual Greater Louisville Classic, held at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park.

CSU placed fifth as a team in the Division I portion of the Blue Division race which also featured Kentucky, IPFW, Western Kentucky, Evansville and Tennessee State.

Senior DiJon Smith (Gary, Ind./Westside) led the Green and White in the eight-kilometer individual race as he recorded a seventh-place finish with a time of 26:25.12.

Junior Desmond Meyer (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) posted a time of 28:16.43 to place 24th and fellow junior Andrew Huff (Gary, Ind./Calumet) later crossed the finish line at 28:51.14 for a 29th-place showing.

Also competing for CSU were sophomore Adrian Chavez (Highland, Ind./Highland) (3nd), freshman Weslei Blackhawk (Riverdale, Ill./Gary (Ind.) Westside) (35th) and junior Luis Reyes (Chicago, Ill./Hubbard) (39th).

CSU heads to Kenosha, Wis. on Oct. 8 to compete in the Lucien Rosa Invitational, hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside.
