Box Score Port Charlotte - The Villanova Wildcats broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning with an RBI single to beat the Cougars in Port Charlotte Florida.
Making his first start of the year for CSU,
Jake Perkins (Huntley, IL/Huntley) (0-1) held the Wildcats to 3 runs over 5 innings. Perkins struck out 4 and walked 3 in his first start on the mound.
Zach Thomas (Joliet, IL/Joliet West ) came in relief for Perkins giving up only one unearned run over the final 4 innings.
On his birthday,
Mattingly Romanin (Burlington, ONT/Notre Dame) was 2-4 with an RBI to start the scoring for CSU in the bottom of the first.
In the bottom of the 4th,
Andy Gertonson (Crystal Lake IL/Central) lead off with a double to right centerfield. Two batters later,
Sanford Hunt (Chicago, IL/Kenwood) drove in Gertonson with a double of his own.
