The Cougars took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on junior
Robert Swenson (Mason City, Iowa/Mason City)'s two-out RBI double down the left field line.

Dane Mehring (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) retired the first six Hornets hitters and did not allow a hit until the fourth inning. Sacramento State tied the game in the fifth on a two-out RBI single by Dane Fjinkaka.
CSU briefly regained the lead on a sacrifice fly by freshman
Sanford Hunt (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood) in the sixth inning, but the first place Hornets quickly answered with two runs in their half of the sixth highlighted by a Rhys Hoskins' RBI single.
Mehring suffered the loss to fall to 0-8 despite allowing just two earned runs in 6.2 innings.
Junior
Chase Matheson (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) had his 15
th multi-hit game of the season with two doubles in the game while Hunt also finished two hits.
Sacramento State's Justin Dillon struck out six over six innings to pick up his sixth victory of the year. Sutter McLoughlin held the Cougars scoreless over the final three frames to score his ninth save of the season. Hoskins and Kyle Moses finished the day with two hits in the win.
CSU fell to 14-31 and 3-15 in the conference while Sacramento State saw their record jumped to 31-18 and 17-4 in the WAC. Chicago State travels to take on Milwaukee on Tuesday (May 6) with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CT against the non-conference Panthers.
