PDF Box ScoreSACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Chicago State Cougars baseball team fell to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) leading Sacramento State Hornets 6-0 on Friday afternoon (May 2) at John Smith Field.

Chase Matheson (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) singled to put runners at first and second. CSU couldn't push a run across as freshman

Matt Schmidt (Dundee, Ill./Jacobs) grounded out to end the threat.
Wellwerts retired five straight Sacramento State hitters before running into trouble in the fifth inning. Clay Cederquist reached base via an error to lead off the home half of the fifth and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Dane Fujinaka knocked in the second Hornets' run with a single to center field. Fujinaka stole second two batters later and scored on a RBI single by Kyle Moses.
The WAC leader added two more runs in the seventh and one more in the eighth inning to wrap up the scoring. Wellwerts took the loss to fall to 2-8 on the year, allowing just two earned runs in eight innings.
Sacramento State starting pitcher Brennan Leitao allowed three hits and struck out six in eight innings to pick up his seventh victory of the year. Hornets' left fielder Kyle Moses had three hits, two doubles and two RBI in the victory.
Chicago State fell to 14-29 and 3-13 in the conference while Sacramento State improved to 29-18 and 15-4 in WAC play. The two teams continue their series tomorrow (May 3) beginning at 2:00 p.m. PT.
