Chicago State earned five hits and three runs in the first inning. The big hit was a bases loaded single by junior
Mattingly Romanin (Burlington, ONT/Notre Dame) to score a pair of runs. Junior
Chase Matheson (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) also singled in a run in the frame.
Starter
Dane Mehring (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) threw a 1-2-3 first inning with a pair of strikeouts. In the second inning, however, things unraveled. The Cougars committed four errors in the inning and saw the Roadrunners score seven runs. Four of the tallies were unearned. The Roadrunners chased Mehring from the contest.
Bakersfield all but put the game away with a six spot in the third inning.
Mehring is 0-5 on the year with the loss. James Barragan improves to 3-4 after allowing five runs on 11 hits in 5.0 innings. Steven Gee picked up the save by throwing the final four innings of the contest.
