Cougars Close WAC Series at Bakersfield With 11-0 Setback

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Chicago State fell to Bakersfield 11-0 on Sunday (April 13) afternoon at Hardt Field in a Western Athletic Conference contest in seven innings.

The Roadrunners broke through in the first inning with a single run thanks to an RBI by Allen Gwynn. Bakersfield added another run in the fourth inning. They loaded the bases in the fourth with no outs and the Cougars almost got out of it with no runs crossing the plate. Jordie Hein hit a soft ground ball to short with one out that the Cougars tried to turn two on but the speedy Hein just beat the play at first to give the Roadrunners their only tally in the fourth.

Junior starting pitcher Ean McNeal (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) walked a pair in the fifth and was removed from the contest. Both of those runners scored to make the score 4-0 in favor of Bakersfield after five innings. The Roadrunners put the game away with a seven spot in the sixth. .


The Cougars had chances offensively, but left six runners on base over the first five innings.

McNeal took the loss. He allowed four runs in 4.1 innings. He is now 2-4 on the year. Bakersfield starter Austin Davis earned the win after throwing all seven innings. He is now 2-6 on the year. Junior Jared Patterson (Ventura, Calif./Buena) had a single and a walk for the Cougars.

Chicago State falls to 10-21 (0-9 WAC). Bakersfield improves to 14-19 (7-5 WAC). The Cougars return to action on Wednesday (April 16) at 6 p.m. at Cougar Stadium.
