Complete Notes

• This is the quickest the Cougars have reached four wins in a saeson since 2000.

• Junior Eric Hall (Oakville, ONT/Oakville Trafalgar) holds a 1.17 ERA over his first four appearances. His ERA ranks fourth in the WAC.

• Chicago State enters the weekend leading the Western Athletic Conference in hitting (.301) and stolen bases (18). The Cougars are second in the WAC in slugging (.392), on base percentage (.371), runs (62), hits (113) and total bases (147).

• Six Cougars have started all 10 games for Chicago State.

• Chicago State's 2-1 victory over Omaha in 11 innings earlier this year was head coach Steve Joslyn's first extra innings victory as Chicago State's head coach. The Cougars fell 7-6 at North Dakota in 10 inning last year on May 18, in Joslyn's only other extra inning contest.

• The Cougars have held a lead in nine of their 10 contests. The only game the Cougars never led was Feb. 16 in a 6-3 loss to Missouri. The Cougars were in the game though, trailing 4-3 until two Missouri runs in the eighth gave the Tigers some breathing room.

• 2014 is Chicago State's first season in the Western Athletic Conference after spending the previous four seasons in the Great West Conference. This will be the first time that the Cougars will participate in a conference with a bid to the NCAA Regionals since the 2006 season.

• Despite only having five full-time pitchers, Chicago State compiled the program's best single season ERA (5.99) since 1994 in 2013.

• The Cougars won 10 games last year which marked the first time since the 2001 season that the team had won at least 10 games in back-to-back seasons.

• Mattingly Romanin (Burlington, ONT/Notre Dame) and Andrew Wellwerts (Cedar Lake, Ind./Hanover Central) were named to the 2013 All-Great West Conference Tournament Team. Romanin and Wellwerts represented the most players that the Cougars have had on a postseason tournament team since 1999.

• The Cougars earned a pair of victories in the GWC Tournament last year. By finishing in the final four, it was Chicago State's best finish in a conference tournament since 1999.

• Mattingly Romanin (Burlington, ONT/Notre Dame) became a viral Internet celebrity this past summer. A skydiver landed on him prior to a college summer league contest in Hannibal, Mo. The video of the incident earned over 3 million hits and was featured on ESPN, USA Today and Sports Illustrated.

• The Cougars move into a brand new on-campus baseball stadium this season. The $2.5 million facility gives Chicago State a true home for the first time in program history. The ballpark features a FieldTurf artificial surface, a dirt mound and a crushed-brick warning track.
