Utah Valley Takes Opener From Chicago State 8-3

OREM, Utah – Two runs in the first and second and three in the third by Utah Valley helped the Wolverines to an 8-3 Great West Conference baseball victory over Chicago State on Friday (April 26) evening at Brent Brown Ballpark.

Already trailing 4-0 in the top of the third, the Cougars cut the deficit in half thanks to a two-out 2 RBI single by sophomore Aveeno Nasiloski (Hammond, Ind./Gavit). His single through the left side scored freshman Julian Russell (Chicago, Ill./Gordon Tech) and senior Joelh Calixto (Chicago, Ill./Guerin).
 
An RBI ground out by freshman William Munoz (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) in the sixth scored Nasiloski to make the score 8-3 in favor of Utah Valley.
 
Reigning GWC Pitcher of the Year Adam Gunn went 6.0 innings for Utah Valley. Chicago State got to him for six hits and three earned runs. Gunn picked up the win to move his mark to 5-4.
 
Chicago State starter junior Dylan Sterrett (Chalmers, Ind./Frontier) falls to 1-8 after allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits in six innings. Sophomore Zach McIntyre (Chicago, Ill./St. Francis de Sales) shutout Utah Valley over the game's final two innings in relief.
 
Utah Valley improves to 15-21 (6-3 GWC). The Cougars are now 6-27 (3-10 GWC). Chicago State and Utah Valley will continue their four-game set with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch of game one is set for 4 p.m. MT.
