LAS VEGAS – Junior Jamere Dismukes (Park Forest, Ill./Rich East) (Park Forest, Ill./Rich East/BlackHawk College) recorded double-digit points for the fourth time in his last five games during Chicago State's 74-52 loss at No. 24 UNLV on Thursday (Jan. 3) evening at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Dismukes finished with a team-high 13 points and a game-high four steals. Junior Matt Ross (Dixon, Ill./Dixon) (Dixon, Ill./Dixon/Sauk Valley CC) added 11 points.

Chicago State and UNLV played within a few possessions of each other until a 10-0 run midway through the first half gave UNLV a double-digit lead. The Rebels took a 39-21 advantage to the locker room at halftime.

The Cougars found some success chipping away at the deficit. Ross' 3-pointer with 10:23 remaining in the game cut the deficit to 11 at 53-42. Unfortunately for the Cougars, a nearly five minute scoring drought followed for Chicago State and UNLV was able to put the game away.

“At that 10 minute mark we couldn't get a rebound, a score or make a play that we needed to,” head coach Tracy Dildy said. “You can't do that against a team like UNLV that is probably going to make a run in March.”

UNLV finished 23-of-53 (43.4 percent) from the floor. Chicago State shot 19-of-59 percent (30.5 percent). The Cougars forced 21 turnovers while committing 17 of their own. However UNLV did more with the turnovers, leading 23-15 in points off turnovers.

“Forcing more turnovers is a positive from the night and a sign we're getting better,” Dildy said. “But a 49-27 rebounding difference will get you beat every time.”

The Cougars made all 12 free throw attempts. The last time Chicago State went perfect at the line was when they went 9-for-9 at UTPA on Feb. 18.

UNLV improves to 12-2. Chicago State falls to 4-13. The Cougars take an extended break before returning to the court on Jan. 12 at NJIT. It's the first Great West Conference game of the season for the Cougars.
