CHICAGO - Former Chicago State University baseball player Albert Carpen (Whiting, IN/Clark) was recently honored by CollegeBaseballInsider.com for his outstanding final collegiate season by earning All-America accolades from the organization.
The Whiting, Ind., native was named an honorable mention All-American and became the first CSU baseball player to garner All-America honors in the program's Division I era. Carpen was one of three players from the Great West Conference to receive the accolade, joining Utah Valley's Billy Burgess and Goose Kallunki.
Carpen led the Green and White with a Great West Conference-leading .426 batting average while setting the school's single-season record for hits with 78. He also produced 23 RBI, 13 stolen bases, 10 doubles, three triples and a home run. He concluded his career with a 4-of-5 performance at the plate against Houston Baptist in the Great West Conference Tournament on May 24 in Orem, Utah.
Carpen also became the first Cougar to earn All-Great West Conference accolades as he was a first team selection in May, and finished the season ranked among the NCAA Division I leaders in on-base percentage (second) and hitting (third).
