CHICAGO, Ill. – A day after mustering a season-high 22 hits, the Cougars matched a season-low as Bradley pitcher Rob Scahill held CSU to just two hits as Chicago State fell to the Braves 5-1, Friday afternoon at O'Brien Field in Peoria, Illinos.
The Cougars fall to 5-34 on the season, while Bradley improves to 19-19.
Bradley got all they needed in the bottom of the fifth inning when Tommy Fitzgerald connected on a three-run homerun giving the Braves a 3-0 lead.
BU added another run in the seventh frame when they got an RBI single by Grant Escue that scored Fitzgerald.
Scahill was flirting with a no-hitter holding Chicago State at bay for the first seven innings, before the Cougars were able to muster some offense on an RBI single by senior
Simeon Morgan (Fresno, CA/West Hill CC) that plated
Jonathan Wilson (Vallejo, CA/Napa Valley CC) who walked leading off the inning.
The Braves would add another run in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 5-1 and close out the scoring.

Robert Vargas (Alhambra, CA/Alhambra HS) (3-8) had a strong outing but picked up the loss pitching 7.1 innings, allowing 10 hits, four earned runs and struck-out three.
Schahill picked up the win for Bradley pitching eight innings of two-hit ball, allowed one run and struck-out eight.
Lacelle McKinley (Gary, IN/Calumet College) picked up the only other hit for the Cougars going 1-for-3.
Chicago State and Bradley resume their series Saturday morning, as the teams will play a double-header starting at 11 a.m. at O'Brien Field in Peoria.
