Leatherneck’s Complete Sweep of Chicago State

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois Drew Laidig was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI in leading the Leatherneck's to an 11-0 victory, while also completing a three-game sweep of the Cougars on Sunday afternoon, at Alfred D. Boyer Stadium.

 

WIU ups their record to 4-14 while Chicago State drops to 3-20 on the season.

 

The Cougars got not get their bats going, mustering just four hits against the Leathernecks.

 

Western Illinois got on the board early as Tyler Metcalf hit a two-run triple in the second to give WIU an early 3-0 lead, Metcalf would later score on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Surprenant, extending the lead to 4-0.

 

After adding another run in the third, WIU exploded for four more runs in the fifth inning assisted by an error and two passed balls.

 

Western Illinois put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning to close out the scoring in the game.

 

Simeon Morgan (Fresno, CA/West Hill CC) (0-2) took the loss for the Cougars.

 

WIU's Mark DiBernardo pitched six innings of two hit ball for the win.

 

CSU returns to action on Tuesday, April 1, as they stay in the city of Chicago to take on cross-town rival the University of Illinois-Chicago beginning at 6:05 p.m.  in Les Miller Field.
