CHICAGO, Ill. - The Chicago State track and field teams had five student athletes named as NEC Prime Performers on the final week of the outdoor regular season.
Makiyah Brewton and
Bryanna Boroze represented the women's track and field team while
Nasir Ali,
Earnest Davenport, and
Faustin Kaseba represented the men's team.
Makiyah Brewton (Douglas, Georgia) delivered an impressive performance at the Drake Relays, securing a podium finish in the University/College Division long jump with a leap of 5.87 meters, marking her fourth jump of 5.60 meters or better. Brewton continues to hold the conference lead in the long jump. Additionally, she contributed to the 4x100m relay team, running the third leg and helping secure a 13th-place finish in the University Division with a time of 46.91.
Bryanna Boroze (Hartford, Connecticut) showcased her shot put skills at the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative on April 25, achieving a throw of 13.06 meters. This performance earned her a fourth-place finish and the distinction of being the second-highest collegiate finisher. Boroze's throw positions her second in the NEC rankings for the shot put.
Nasir Ali (Camden, New Jersey) set a personal best in the 400-meter hurdles at the 116th Drake Relays, clocking in at 53.36. Ali won his heat and placed 12th overall out of 21 participants. His performance places him second in the NEC standings for the event.
Earnest Davenport (Madison, Illinois) excelled at the 116th Drake Relays on April 24, he competed in the University/College Division of the Men's High Jump. Davenport achieved a leap of 2.08 meters, securing a second-place finish overall out of 22 jumpers across all divisions. He was the highest-placing Cougar Men's athlete at the Drake Relays and now ranks second in the NEC for the high jump.
Faustin Kaseba (Atlanta, Georgia) achieved a personal best in the 110-meter hurdles at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater Drake Alternative meet on April 25. Kaseba ran a 14.28 in the finals, reinforcing his lead in the conference for this event.
The Chicago State track and field teams will open championship season this weekend at the NEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships from New Britain, Connecticut hosted by Central Connecticut State Univerisity. The two day event will take place on Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3.
