KNOXVILLE, TENN. - Chicago State track and field wrapped up competition at the Tennessee Invite with several standout performances across the track and field events on day two.
Makiyah Brewton delivered one of the top performances of the meet, placing second overall in the women's long jump with a mark of 6.00 meters. Phebe Thompson added an eighth-place finish at 5.66 meters, while Lena Cleveland placed 11th with a jump of 5.60 meters.
On the track, the Cougars saw strong showings in the relays. The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Latonia Johnson, Thompson, Brewton and Queanna Taylor placed seventh with a time of 46.61, while the men's 4x100-meter relay squad of Xavier Beatty, Eric Sanchez, Skylar McGhee and Carlton Montgomery Jr. finished 15th in 41.66.
Chicago State also found success in the hurdles semifinals. Katherine Thornton placed ninth in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.18. On the men's side, Faustin Kaseba led the group with a ninth-place finish in 14.39, followed by Ishan Cooper in 23rd at 14.98 and Michael Rabogo in 34th at 15.75.
In the sprints, Taylor led the women in the 100 meters with a 14th-place finish in 11.97, while Johnson and Thompson followed in 21st and 25th with times of 12.14 and 12.23, respectively. Montgomery Jr. paced the men's 100 meters with a time of 10.73 to place 35th, while McGhee finished 63rd in 11.25. Sheridan added a 44th-place finish in the men's 400 meters with a time of 50.13.
In the middle distance events, Weronika Stanczak placed 17th in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:16.47, while Denis Kirui finished 20th in the men's 800 meters in 1:54.60.
Jacob Draaisma turned in a strong distance performance, placing fourth in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:49.74.
The Cougars closed out the meet with solid efforts in the 4x400-meter relays. The women's team of Jaya Harrigan, Thornton, Johnson and Taylor placed 12th with a time of 4:05.92, while the men's team of Kai Sheridan, Rabogo, Brooks and Nasir Ali finished 13th in 3:21.22.
In the field events, Bryanna Boroze led Chicago State in the women's shot put with a 12th-place finish at 12.70 meters, while Demya McClure added a mark of 10.40 meters to place 27th. Lucas Polkinghorn cleared 1.92 meters in the men's high jump to place 17th. Kendrick Scott recorded a throw of 13.90 meters in the men's shot put to place 20th.
In the men's long jump, Skylar McGhee placed 19th with a mark of 6.93 meters, while Beatty followed in 25th at 6.83 meters.
In Muncie, Indiana competition closed at the We Fly Challenge with a full slate of performances across sprints, middle distance and field events.
The Cougars opened the day in the men's shot put where Elijah Gibbs led the group with a 13th-place finish, recording a mark of 14.50 meters. Nickolas Grigsby followed in 22nd with a throw of 12.10 meters.
On the track, Chicago State competed in the 800 meters on both sides. Dean Solomon paced the men with a time of 2:01.16 to place 29th, while Jason Artega followed in 38th at 2:04.43. Alexis Fallejo represented the women with a time of 2:38.89 to place 26th.
In the hurdles, Jerrick Kelley delivered a strong performance in the men's 110-meter hurdles, placing sixth overall with a time of 15.71.
The Cougars also saw action in the short sprints. Praxton Robinson placed 15th in the men's 100 meters with a time of 11.33, while Azaria Austin finished 33rd in the women's 100 meters in 13.01. Robinson returned in the 200 meters to place 20th with a time of 23.02, while Austin added a 38th-place finish in the women's 200 meters at 27.11.
In the men's 400 meters, Clifton Martin recorded a time of 53.76 to place 42nd.
Chicago State closed out the meet in the men's 1500 meters where Solomon added another performance, finishing 36th with a time of 4:16.05.
