CHICAGO, Ill. - The NEC has announced their weekly outdoor track and field awards for the week of April 1 where Chicago State track and field earned multiple weekly honors. Faustin Kaseba, Nasir Ali, Katherine Thornton and Makiyah Brewton highlighted the Cougars on the track at the Raleigh Relays.
Freshman Faustin Kaseba was named Men's Rookie of the Week and a prime performer after posting a time of 14.74 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing 25th in a field of 49 competitors. His mark leads the NEC by 0.27 seconds, setting the pace in the conference.
Nasir Ali earned Prime Performer recognition on the men's side with a time of 53.39 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles. He placed 12th out of 46 runners and currently holds the top time in the NEC by nearly a full second.
Katherine Thornton picked up Prime Performer honors for the women after competing in both hurdle events. She recorded a time of 14.47 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, placing 29th out of 92 runners, which ranks third in the NEC. Thornton also posted a time of 1:05.47 in the 400-meter hurdles, placing 51st overall while leading the conference in the event.
Makiyah Brewton added to the Cougars' impressive weekend with a strong showing in the long jump. Brewton recorded a mark of 5.88 meters to finish 9th out of 61 competitors. Her jump ranks first in the NEC and leads the conference by 13 centimeters.
The Cougar track and field teams will next compete at the Pacesetter Sports Invitational at Indiana State University from April 3-4 from Terre Haute, Indiana.
