RICHMOND, Ky. — Chicago State men's and women's track and field opened the outdoor season with multiple event wins and podium finishes at the EKU Invitational.
The women's team was highlighted by Lena Cleveland, who won the triple jump with a mark of 11.63 meters. Katherine Thornton also captured the 100-meter hurdles title in 14.70, leading a one-two finish for the Cougars alongside Alyiah Ferguson. Chicago State added another victory in the 4x100-meter relay as the A team of Johnson, Taylor, Brewton, and Thompson finished first in 47.42.
Phebe Thompson placed second in the long jump with a mark of 5.69 meters, while Latonia Johnson posted strong sprint performances with a third-place finish in the 200 meters and fourth in the 100 meters.
On the men's side, Denis Kirui led the Cougars with a victory in the 3000 meters in 8:41.18. Collins Kuyo joined him on the podium with a third-place finish. In the field events, Xavier Beatty placed second in the triple jump and Khalis Reyes finished third, while Kendrick Scott added a third-place finish in the shot put.
Chicago State also recorded podium finishes from Michael Rabogo in the 400-meter hurdles and the men's 4x100-meter relay team of Montgomery, McGhee, Kaseba, and Beatty.

The Cougar Track & Field teams will head to Raleigh for the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University from March 26-28.
